On Friday, July 10, 2026, Baobab Learning Center (BLC) organized a free online seminar on Google Meet entitled “Building a Successful Career within Humanitarian Organizations.”

Lasting approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes, the session was facilitated by Dr. Drahamane Salmana, Technical Director of Baobab Learning Center and International Consultant. His expertise and experience enabled participants to gain a better understanding of the humanitarian sector and acquire practical tools for advancing their careers.

Objective of the Seminar:

The objective of this seminar was to equip participants with the skills, confidence, and tools needed to become key drivers of economic and social change.

The seminar also aimed to lay the foundation for the creation of the BLC Career Club, a network of young people who may eventually become ambassadors of Baobab Learning Center, promoting mutual support, experience sharing, and professional development.

Main Topics Covered:

• Career planning process;
• Development of a Personal Development Plan (PDP);
• Preparation of a professional CV and a Personal History Profile (PHP) tailored to international organizations;
• Understanding the systems and operations of humanitarian organizations;
• Creating a professional profile in recruitment databases;
• Golden rules for writing an effective cover letter.

Discussions with Participants:

The question-and-answer session generated strong interest and provided practical responses to participants’ concerns.

The main questions focused on:

• What to do when a former expatriate supervisor has left the country and can no longer be reached as a professional reference;
• Best practices for writing a convincing cover letter that meets recruiters’ expectations;
• Recruitment practices within organizations, particularly the criteria used in selecting candidates.

The seminar brought together 30 participants, illustrating the growing interest of young professionals in career opportunities within the humanitarian sector.

Conclusion:

This seminar enabled participants to acquire practical knowledge, benefit from expert guidance, and discuss the realities of recruitment and career development within humanitarian organizations. The interactive exchanges and numerous questions reflected the participants’ strong interest in opportunities available in this sector.

Through this initiative, Baobab Learning Center (BLC), represented by its President, Ms. Mariama Thera, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting young people and professionals in their career development by offering quality training, spaces for dialogue, and networking opportunities.
