Doubahan’s Story: From Survival to Possibility

Doubahan—affectionately nicknamed “Miraculous” by Baobab Learning Center staff—came to the Center after fleeing domestic violence in her village. She had been living on the street and surviving as a small food vendor when BLC staff first found her sleeping outside the Center.

The team immediately provided food, clothing, and access to bathing, offering safety and stability during a critical moment. At first, Doubahan was hesitant to return to school and remained focused on earning money to survive. With patience, encouragement, and consistent support, staff helped her see education as a pathway forward.

Today, Doubahan is in sixth grade and on track to pass her national exams and continue to middle school. She dreams of becoming a teacher. She is one of four children who now reside at Baobab Learning Center year-round due to experiences of domestic abuse, receiving the care, protection, and education they need to heal and thrive.
