Innovating Community Health Through Local Disinfectant Production
Baobab Learning Center was selected by researchers from Berkeley National Laboratory and graduate students at UC Berkeley to be trained in the assembly and use of the Electro-Clean machine—an innovative system that produces effective, low-cost disinfectant using water, salt, and electricity.
BLC translated technical materials into French and assembled a local oversight team that included an electrician and a medical professional. Young adults serving on the Health Committee were engaged in producing the disinfectant, distributing it to surrounding communities, and sharing public health information to support safe and healthy practices.
