Women’s Cooperative: Economic Empowerment Through Shea Butter Production
Baobab Learning Center supported the creation of a women-led shea butter cooperative to expand economic opportunity and strengthen household livelihoods. As part of this initiative, BLC built two mills for shea nuts and grain and trained 100 women in shea nut gathering and the production of high-quality shea butter.
Beyond production skills, cooperative members received training in entrepreneurship, personal financial management, and access to micro-financing. This holistic approach helped women build sustainable income-generating activities while increasing confidence and financial independence.
In parallel, BLC organized workshops focused on women’s rights, including education on the negative impacts of early marriage and domestic violence. Additional training supported mothers in adopting modern methods of food preparation, hygiene, and childcare—creating positive changes that extend beyond the individual to families and communities.
Together, these efforts strengthened women’s leadership, economic stability, and well-being across the villages served.
